Mujahid Refutes Afghan Journalists Center’s Allegations of Rights Violations

KABUL (BNA): Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, has dismissed the Afghan Journalists Center’s report that 168 violations of journalists’ rights occurred in the country this year.

He said that some journalists were detained for a short time for engaging in non-journalistic or criminal activities, but they did not suffer any harm from the government.

Mujahid also denied any pressure on the media by the government, saying that all visual and online media were free to operate, discuss, analyze, and publish reports. He said that this situation was better than in most countries.

He added that some media outlets that had serious deviations and worked against the national interests of the Islamic Emirate were disciplined. He cited the example of a radio station that was blocked for trying to broadcast content dictated by external circles. He said that the radio station was still restricted.
