Agreement Signed between Afghanistan & Siemens Energy Company

Kabul (BNA) In presence of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, an agreement of cooperation was signed yesterday between Ministry of Finance, Afghanistan National Water Affairs Regulation Authority, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sharkat and Siemens Energy Company.

In a ceremony held yesterday on this occasion in Chahar Chinar Palace and attended also by first vice president Amrullah Salih, head of Afghanistan Investment Facilitation Unit Attaullah Nasib spoke and considered signing the agreement with Siemens Energy as positive response of German Prime Minister to the vision and demand of President Ghani.

He added that the main goals of the historic agreement were to develop Afghanistan as a central Asian energy hub, improve access to reliable, efficient, and sustainable electricity and to incorporate renewable energy resources.

He further said that currently 28 percent of Afghanistan people had access to electricity and it would jump to 65 percent by 2032. Afterwards, Deputy Minister of Finance Habib Zadran, Head of National Water Affairs Regulation Authority Khan Mohammad Takal, DABS representative Mohmoud Qadiri, Middle East Managing Director of Siemens Energy Dietmar Siersdorfer and Senior Vice President Finance of Siemens Energy Michael Bueker signed the agreement. Via webinar, Senior Vice President Finance of Siemens Energy Michael Bueker spoke and by pointing to the value of energy in development of countries said they would cooperate with Afghanistan in the field of access to sustainable, reliable and renewable energy, adding that they would change Afghanistan to an energy hub and equip the country in renewable energy. Afterwards, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani spoke and said time and distance could not prevent them from joint work and cooperation, praising all for making signing the agreement happen.

Country’s President added that energy was not only infrastructure but also investment on all developments and human, social and financial development.

We will built an Afghanistan where citizens can look forward to reliable power, not only for their homes and offices, but to ensure that their products, whether agriculture, industrial, or services, can rely on sustained energy,” President Ghani said. Pointing to role of the Siemens Energy company in energy sector, President Ghani said he was happy the company has played a facilitating role in the region level and it would further facilitate access to the electricity of the Central Asia.

The country’s President further said that Afghanistan had the high capacity of producing energy and natural gas, adding that besides development and effectively use of the country’s resources, they would create a standard electricity system. President Ghani declared his full support from reforms in DABS led by first vice president Amrullah Salih, saying that the government would pay considerable attention to producing solar, wind and water electricity resources in the country.
