Corruption Prevention In Remote Areas Helps Curb Illegal Punishments

Tuesday March 28, 2017

Kabul (BNA) The European Union has recently expressed concern over the prevailing injustices in most parts of Afghanistan, where the people refer to the armed oppositions, mostly due to increased corruption in justice and judicial organs.
A drumhead court martial has been popularized among the remote area residents of Afghanistan, where government has less control or the residents are fed up with widespread corruption in justice and judicial entities. The EU said Afghans sees justice and judicial entities as corrupt sources, so, they avoid taking their cases to them, and instead refer to the government oppositions for tackling their legal problems, though, the national unity government has built justice and judiciary courts to fight corruption firmly.
The only way to widen the rule of law all over the country, there is a need for fighting corruption in any entities of the government, particularly in the remote areas, where armed oppositions are still operational. “Institutionalization of the culture of awards and punishments can also help fight corruption, expand rule of law and restore good governance,” a statement from the European Union quoting ambassador Michael Mellibon said adding putting an end to the culture of immunity helps uproot corruption and remove gaps between people and government. Earlier reports leaked that due to the availability of corruption the justice and judiciary organs, the independent Human Rights Commissions and Civil Society activities have expressed concern over most cases seen that people were referring to unofficial and traditional even to the oppositions courts, due to availability of widespread corruption in these entities. The government of Afghanistan has pledged that it would spare no effort to fight corruption in any mean and would take corrupts to justice.
President Ashraf Ghani has also said in order to ensure security and bring stability in economy and practice other needed issues, there was a need to strengthen justice and judiciary system. But, the people said having a political will to fight corruption would be more effective than establishment of additional administrations. The government should bring corrupt individuals to justice and those ministers failed to spend most part of their development budget should legally enquired. Security sectors should also be paid attention and the money embezzled in the security organ should be searched where they had gone. Finally the security organ should be cleared of corruption. Illegal public trail or drumhead court martial has also been said to be eliminated, once the government could expand its control in the remote regions of the country and it wouldn’t allow armed oppositions to set their self-style court, with the availability of the government’s legal ones.
Last year, up to 300 cases were investigated with positive results in fighting corruption, said special administration on fighting corruption, assuring that the ministry of justice has started serious efforts to prevent corruption by any mean. This is while, the government of national unity and the international community, particularly the US have committed to uproot corruption and that as long as corruption was not eliminated, donor nations would lessen their funds to Afghanistan.
