Drought Affects Eighty-Thousand Families in Ghor

Kabul (BNA) Mohammad Karim Khalili Second Vice-President chaired a meeting of the national disaster committee in presence of governor and two representatives of the province who congratulated the Afghan nation on the victory of Afghan national football team at the South Asian matches.
The governor presented a report about the drought in Ghor province and conveyed the concerns of the people.
According to latest surveys as a result of the drought around 80,000 families have been affected there.
The representative of the province at National Assembly also apprised the committee about shortage of animal feed, medicine and potable water as immediate needs of the people.
The meeting assured the people of Ghor province that the government is on the side of people and will undertake necessary measures to meet the needs of the people.
The committee assigned the ministry of agriculture and irrigation that in addition to the existence of 2700 tons of wheat existing in the province dispatch another 6,000 tons of wheat to the province and provide animal feed and medicine for combating animal diseases.
Also the committee allocated 5 million Afghanis reserve fund for possible needs of the province.
The committee also assigned the ministries of rehabilitation and rural development and public works to undertake necessary measures for provision of potable water and keeping the way open to the province during the winter and the ministry of public health was ordered to adopt preventive measures and address health problems therein.
The related international members of commission pledged their preparedness for assisting the people of Ghor province as well assuring that the needed requirements of the affected people will be delivered to the province.
It was also decided that a survey should be carried on the need of other provinces as well.
The committee also confirmed aid to the affected people of earth tremor in Parna village of Badakhshan and consolidation of the agricultural lands in Kachra village of Nangarhar province.
