President Ghani Meets Representatives of Corruption Watchdogs

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with the head and representatives of leading corruption watchdog organizations yesterday.
The meeting took place in ARG was attended by representatives of transparency International, Global Witness, Open contracting and Integrity Watch.
The representatives of these organizations praised President Ghani for his reform agenda and determination to root out corruption. They maintained that the present political will in the government to tackle corruption will bring positive changes to the lives of Afghans.
They also shared their suggestions and proposals with the President on ways to eliminate corruption and pledged their full support in this regard.
Recognizing the current economic and political situation in Afghanistan the President stressed on maintaining a balance between transparency and efficiency. He called for implementation of anti-corruption models that have successfully been tested in other countries, adding that watchdog organization can play an instrumental role in this area.
The President said it is important to include views of citizens and communities in counter-corruption evaluations and not to focus just on the executive, but cover all the three branches of the government.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani called for development of an effective counter-corruption framework of cooperation between the government, watchdog organizations and civil society.
