President Ghani Marks 96th Independence Anniversary, Laid Wreath On Istiqlal Minaret

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on the occasion of 96th anniversary of Afghanistan Independence Day falling on August 19, put wreath on Istiqlal or Freedom Minaret.
In a ceremony to mark the Independence Day and attended among others by civil and military officials including acting Defense Minister Mohammad Masoom Stanikzai and Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and chief justice Sayed Yusuf Haleem, the president put wreath at the Istiqlal Minaret. However, the president, later in a meeting to mark the 96th anniversary of Independence Day here in Arg, besides congratulating the day to the whole people of Afghanistan stated that freedom of nations are obtained due to the cooperation of people with the government.  The president also approved conferring 1000 medals with majority of them to the personnel of national security forces.  President Ghani also noted that the soldiers would no more have the problems of dress and food. He also said that the injured personnel of security entities would be regularly treated and the government is committed to ensure the rights of the families of the security personnel who sacrificed their lives in defending the country’s security and freedom.
The militants and rebels are responsible for the casualties of civilians, the president said, adding the rebels by planting mines on the roads and conducting suicide attacks in mosque, wedding parties and funeral ceremony are killing innocent people. “The enemies of Afghanistan want to see a weak government, however, Afghans have been trying to have a strong and united government to safeguard the country’s independence, the president said”. However, he noted that Afghans have been trying to have a strong and united government to safeguard the country’s short-term, medium-term and long-term interest of the country. Without economic development the country’s political freedom can’t be secured, the president said, adding that is why the government has been doing its best to improve economic situation of the country and living condition of its people. Thanking the international community for its support to Afghanistan, president Ghani said that Afghanistan still is in need of the world community’s support to achieve peace, development and prosperity. The president also conferred government medals to four officers and personnel of the country’s armed forces in recognition of their performances in the meeting.
