Ways of Assisting Govt. Departments By Int’l Community Needs Revision: Danesh

Kabul (BNA) An official of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) called on second vice president Sarwar Danesh and exchanged views on the body’s program for assistance with local governance, BNA reported.
The vice president besides thanking UN especially the UNDP for its cooperation to local governance said that strengthening local organs employees is one of the prime objectives of the new government.
The vice president noted that Afghanistan’s international friends had hugely contributed in the past, but effectiveness of the cooperation to have good local governance requires revision the modalities of the assistance extended by international friends.  He also noted that giving training to government employees and providing technical assistance to government departments is the prime need of the government, saying training local staff is better than temporary hiring advisors and experts.
Describing UNDP’s support and its role on monitoring development programs in the provinces very important, the vice president stressed for continued support of UNDP to local governance in the country.
Assuring UNDP’s continued support in local governance, the UN official also backed the vice president’s suggestion for reviewing the modalities of the assistance and said necessary decisions will be taken in this regard. According to another report, the leading board of the ministry for transport and aviation called on vice president Danesh and briefed him about the problems of the ministry.
