Kabul (BNA) More than 150 people, including women and children, have been killed and more than 200 others wounded in flash floods in different parts of the country, with northern Parwan province hit hardest, the State Ministry of Natural Disaster Management said yesterday.
According to the ministry, the causalities occurred in 13 provinces of the country in the past two days. The ministry also said that people also suffered financial losses, with 151 losing their lives and another 200 getting wounded in the seasonal flooding.
At least 200 houses have been destroyed and 150 others damaged, the ministry said, adding 4,500 trees were uprooted and 322 bridges and 15 shops swept away by the flooding.
The ministry also said that the rescue team had arrived in Parwan, where it was conducting an operation to recover the missing individuals. Efforts are underway to send assistance to the affected areas.
Meanwhile, Parwan’s Deputy Governor Haseena Effat wrote on her social media account that 100 people had been killed and more than 205 others injured in the flooding. She said efforts were underway to find the missing people and reuniting them with their families.
A day earlier, President Ghani met a number of elders from Parwan and assured them of assistance to the victims’ families. Meanwhile the Afghan acting minister of defense also rushed to the area and pledged army’s full cooperation with the people.
