US Provides Worth 50 Million Dollars Technical Assistance To Ministry of Public Work

Kabul (BNA) Costing 50 million dollars, the US has provided technical assistance to the Afghan Ministry of Public Work (MoPW).
The assistance is included of educational and training materials which have been granted to the concerned organ.
Talking on media, Najibullah Ozhan Minister of Public Work said, “This is the biggest technical assistance which has been provided to the Ministry for strengthening of capacity building and working affairs of the concerned ministry, adding that the technical assistance is comprised of 150 learning course in various fields mainly designing and establishment of roads, transportation management, control and up gradation of projects’ quality, road protection and maintenance, financial and administrative system and availability of technical software”.
Mr. Ozhan added that his ministry is trying to forge close relations with a number of higher educational institutions same as the Kabul University (KU) and the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) for seeking their expertise and capacity for further promotion of ministry’s affairs and for further acceleration and strengthening of capacity building process within the concerned organ and technical labs of the ministry would be operational within a week according to the Minister of Public Work.
The Ministry of Public Work is counted in the category of infrastructural institutions and mostly it works in road establishment sector, protection and maintenance of them.
Based on the statistics issued by the Ministry of Public Work currently up to 13,000 asphalted and 30,000 none asphalted roads exist in the country and most of the asphalted roads have been established over the last twelve years following formation of the current political system.
In the meantime, economic experts interpret presence of international community and its financial aids as a matter of prosperity to the Afghan people and they urged upon the government of Afghanistan to take advantage of the opportunity.
However, the world community generously supported Afghanistan by granting the country huge financial assistance, but road establishment programs still face several problems and people expect that transportation system of the country is renewed with the help of foreign donors.
Meanwhile, residents have expressed disagreements over quality of the roads and say that despite allocation of huge financial expenditures the roads weren’t established according to international standards.
