Chief Justice briefs UN envoy on judicial system

Kabul (BNA): Chief Justice Abdul Salam Azimi in meeting with deputy to special envoy of UN secretary General of Afghanistan briefed the latter on judicial system in the country.
According to an official with the Supreme Court, the chief justice besides briefing the diplomat on capacity building, transparency and fighting corruption also said that the judiciary is doing its best to keep on operational the courts in insecure districts by appointing new judges, adding likewise other departments of government, the judiciary is supporting the transition process of national responsibilities to government bodies and therefore is ready to take necessary steps towards ensuring the rule of law and justice.
To achieve the goal, he added that coordination with national and international judiciary organs especially UNAMA is important.
In his remarks, the UN diplomat Mark Bowden said that the world body would continue to support Afghanistan government’s entities particularly the judiciary to ensure security, the rule of law and peace and would continue to support beyond 2014.
