MoF Statement In Regard To Survey on SDGs

Kabul (BNA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan with regard to the polling on first-ever draft about sustainable development (SDGs) prepared by United Nations recently and held with the participation of officials from the ministries and government bodies on Saturday. In the meeting, Wahidullah Wisi the chairman of economic cooperation of the ministry of foreign affairs with regard to SDGs and its relations with national development strategy, national prime programs and the millennium development of the United Nations (MDGS), obligations of the UN member states and the stance of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as a least developed country, a landlocked country, member of UN and post-war country briefed the participants.
Later, document of the draft with 17-objedctives for sustainable development was reviewed and discussed by the representatives of the ministries and government bodies attended in the meeting and the participants presented their viewpoints and suggestions. The draft was approved in principle by the participants.
It is expected that the viewpoints of the participants will be collected by the foreign ministry and through the permanent envoy of Afghanistan in UN will be finalized and presented to the meeting of working group of the United Nations to be held in New York on July 14 to 18 this year.
It has merit to mention that the objectives of sustainable development for millennium development of the United Nations is outlined for the next 30 years up to 2030 with the objective to alleviate poverty, hunger, developing agriculture, health for all, education with quality, gender equity, capacity-building of women and girls, provision of sustainable energy, job provision, confrontation with climate change, access to justice and strengthening the instrument for implementation and world participation for sustainable development.
