Book reading; The Basis of Human Civilization, Scientific Progress, President Karzai

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai in his 15-day radio address asked the people especially the youths to spend most of their time in reading of books.
He added that without doubt the base for human progress and scientific progress is through studying books.
He stressed that our country marks the last week of Saur as the week for reading books.
In fact all information can be obtained through reading books, newspapers, magazines and other printed publications.
He urged the youths who are undergoing education to be used with reading and studying for improving their information and knowledge.
Touching on the activities in printing and extension of scientific and cultural spheres in the country, he added that books are containing all entertainment and scientific subjects each of which can raise knowledge of them.
WE should therefore in addition to school text books encourage our children to study books as well in order to inculcate the culture of reading in their routine activities.
He expressed satisfaction that the number of the  people of country who are able to read and write have increased in the country, and the number of illiterate people are decreasing by passing   each day.
He urged the literate individuals in the families to help the illiterates of that family to read and write as well.
He stressed that the Ministry of Information and Culture, cultural foundations and publishers of the country are obliged to prepare informative books and print them for the children of the country to raise the scientific, cultural and general information of the people and this way the culture of book reading is promoted in the country.
He asked the youth to reduce watching the TVs and instead focus on reading books and other publications.
It should be noted that with the initiative of Information and Culture Ministry, the last week of Saur has been named as the week of reading books and it has been added to the annual calendar.
