Reforms In Electoral System, A Natural Process: Danesh

Kabul (BNA) In line with the statement of presidential office of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to identify the cases for reforms in the electoral system, the Second Vice-President Sarwar Danesh held meeting with the chairman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and its members here yesterday.
According to presidential press office to BNA, in the meeting Second Vice-President said, “Reforms in the electoral system is a continued process and since 1383 the authorities of electoral bodies have been reviewed, reformed and the process is continuing.” With regard to the statement of president office, a member of IEC said that decision to bring reforms should be taken in consultation with concerned entities.
Speaking in the meeting, IEC chairman and member of the body said that leading board of the election commission would welcome any reform within the framework of the laws. Members of IEC also said that any reforms must be based on the constitution and not on personal wishes. Stressing to respect national institutions including IEC, the Vice-President said that any reforms should be brought after comprehensive study and examination.  According to another report, the Second Vice-President Danesh in meeting with the members of civil society bodies here yesterday exchanged views on matters pertaining to reforms in the electoral system and said the leadership of national unity government supports brining reforms in the electoral system. The Vice-President also said that consultation with concerned entities including the civil society organs would continue.
