Sunday, December 29, 2019
Kabul (BNA) Japanese medical doctor and aid worker Tetsu Nakamura has been posthumously honored for his humanitarian work in Afghanistan.
On Friday, Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe handed a letter of appreciation to Nakamura's family for his contributions to Afghanistan's development.
He presented Nakamura's wife, Naoko, with decorations for the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, which the government awarded to Nakamura.
Naoko says she still feels very sad, but she says she hopes aid to Afghanistan will continue, now that many people have shown their support. She says she hopes to see greenery covering the vast land of Afghanistan.
Nakamura died on December 4 after being ambushed by gunmen in the city of Jalalabad. He had worked in the country for decades, providing humanitarian aid and helping with reconstruction efforts.
