Cabinet Principally Approves Chabahar Port Implementation Plan

Kabul (BNA) Cabinet meeting with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on the chair held session the other day, his office said in a statement.
According to the statement, speaking on increased coordination in the unity government, the president said the government of national unity has always made effort to change war into peace. The president added today, we need unity and national unity and the government would continue its works with complete coordination until holding next presidential elections, the statement added. Lauding the Afghan security forces’ bravery and sacrifices in defending the people and country, the president thanked the ministry of interior for introducing some corrupt people to the court, the statement continued. The president added the government should provide equal opportunities to all citizens when it came to in appointments which he said must not be based on ethnic and racial lines. In compliance with the Law on Access to Information, the people reserved the right to know how the appointments were made, he said. Chief Executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, while endorsing the president’s remarks, said the national unity government (NUG) had been established based on necessity and it was a landmark decision. CE Dr. Abdullah said the unity government took charge at a time when coalition forces had withdrawn from Afghanistan and people had been facing with problems. The unity government on one hand defended the country and the people and on the other continued its efforts in various spheres, Dr. Abdullah said. The unity government would walk the way that served the Afghan people with unity and coordination, he added. The cabinet meeting has also approved in principle the Chabahar port agreement implementation plan, the statement said. The statement added that implementation plan of Chabahar agreement was approved in principle after it was presented to the meeting by deputy finance and administrative minister of the Ministry of Transportation of Afghanistan. The plan includes awareness of the private sectorregarding the materials of the agreement, meeting with the Ministries of Finance, Commerce and Industries, Public Works, Interior, and Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries to specify the challenges and issues for the implementation of the plan and finding solutions for it. ARG Palace said the plan presented by the Ministry of Transportation also includes establishment of a committee to follow the programs, establishment of parking along the routes, and establishment of representative offices in Zahidan and Chabahar of Iran. The cabinet of ministers instructed the Ministry of Transportation to establish coordination among the related ministries and government institutions for the implementation of the plan.
