IEC Chairman; Nobody’s Votes Will Be Lost

Kabul (BNA) Abdul Badi Sayad chairman of Independent Election Commission in a press conference told, polling centers that fail to open until 1:00 pm today will open tomorrow.
In the centers where voting started late, the process has been extended to 8:00pm today, Sayad added.
Confusion over biometric voter registration equipment, polling stations not opening on time, missing election materials and delays forcing lengthy waits angered voters on Saturday.
Independent Election Commission has announced that 8,918,000 voters have been registered and more than 2,500 candidates are in the run for 249 seats of Wolesi Jirga, including 417 women candidates.
Elections will not take place in eastern Ghazni province amid an ongoing dispute over how to divide its electoral constituencies to ensure a more balanced ethnic representation.
Independent election commission has postponed elections in Kandahar for a week, following a brazen attack on a high-profile security meeting there with a US delegation that killed at least two senior provincial officials, including the province’s police chief, Gen. Abdul Raqiz.
