Kabul (BNA) International Urban Symposium held by the ministry of urban development and land ended with the speech of second vice president Sarwar Danesh yesterday.
In ending ceremony of the symposium attended by minister of urban development and land, governor of Kabul, Kabul mayor, deputy ministers and officials of the ministry of urban development and land IDLG and representatives of international partners, second vice president Sarwar Danesh considered problems in construction and housing, management and resources of water, electricity, environment and pollution, traffic, increasing of population and unemployment as current problems in urban development and housing in the country.
He added that based on surveys carried out three years ago, in only 17 PDs of Kabul, there were nearly 361,421 residential houses have been constructed in un-planned areas, covering 70 percent of residential houses in the city and 80 present of the city’s population, saying that the respective areas have been sidelined from urban infrastructures and services and have resulted in continued poverty and distance between the government and people.
“it is not the fault of those who are living in un-planned areas of the city,” Danesh said, adding that the miserable people need shelter and are obliged to build a house in an unplanned area.
He stressed that the government needed to change these areas to planned areas by implementing amendment programs and deliver services to the people as well as legalize and protect the people’s properties by providing them with property document.
Danesh expressed happiness that national unity government has had unprecedented achievements in connection with addressing problems caused by land and urban services.
