Olive Yields Increased Tenfold In Nangarhar

Kabul (BNA) The in-charges of Nangarhar province say that comparing previous years, the production of olive has eye-catching increase in this province.
According to the head of Nangarhar canal project, Ziarat Gul Rahel, the level of olive production comparing last year has increased tenfold and they are ready last year, the yield of olive was approximately zero and in all time of year, this project had produced only 30 tons olive, but in current year, the production of olive has increased from 270 to 350 tons. Rahel added that despite the possibilities have not been reached on its due time, including this, because of professionalization of personnel and cutting of branches of olive trees, its production has increased. He commemorated that in current year, the branches of the trees cover 350 hectares of land have been cut, but the Ministry of Agriculture has not distributed chemical fertilizer and other necessary means. Rahel added that the plant of olive is semi-active and is facing with shortages of workers and some initial items. 
He said that with the assistance of Asian Bank at the cost of $25 million, that from among it, its $two million has been spent. The work of the project would begin and from among it, a sum of $17 million would be spent for repairing of building that same parts of it would be reconstructed. The head of Nangarhar canal project reports that the Asian Bank would help us in the near future and the USAID pledged to contribute worth $ 15 million to this project. At the same time, the administration of agriculture of Herat told media that the products of silkworm had high growth comparing last years. Head of agriculture and animal husbandry of Heart province, Faqir Ahmad Bayangar says that this year, the peasants had over 250 tons cocoon that comparing previous years, this figure shows an unprecedented increase. Based on cultivation of agriculture administration over Afs 50 million had been earned from nourishment of silkworm. Likewise, in upcoming years this sector would have ascending move. The investigations suggest that Herat province is a good bed for nourishment rare agricultural products such as silk and saffron, its climate is suitable for such products.
It is mentionable that through nourishment of silkworm tens families promote their life especially in Zenda Jan district of Herat province. More affairs of this project are promoted by female. Beside this, weaving industry also absorbed a large number of women in this province. The Herat farmers also say that if the market be found for production of silkworm and the security condition is normal the nourishment of silkworm would be changed into a great industry. During previous year, WFP proclaimed that the level of agriculture has been heightened in Afghanistan and comparing previous year, the wheat fields have increased from 20 to 40 percent. This study also shows that the products of rain-fed wheat would increase considerably in Afghanistan. The Ministry of Agriculture and animal husbandry has expressed its optimism that during few upcoming years, Afghanistan would be closed to self-sufficiency.
