President Karzai: Afghan Gov. Fully Respective Of Human Rights

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai received for a meeting Dr. Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who is on a visit of Afghanistan.
In the meeting where Mr. Reto STOCKER, ICRC’s head of Kabul delegation was also present, Dr. Peter said the ICRC began to stand by and assist the people of Afghanistan since very long that dates back to the time of Jihad.
Dr. Peter stressed that over the past ten years, many non-government organizations were in and out of the country, but the ICRC had maintained its presence and activity and continued to assist Afghans.
He informed the President of the ICRC Headquarters’ decision to reopen its hospital in Kandahar, but asked the Afghan government to provide working safety for the hospital to run back properly.
President Karzai thanked the ICRC for all its assistance over these past many years and said the Afghan people would never forget the vital work the Committee has been carrying out.
The President said the government would do everything it can to provide the safety required for the hospital in Kandahar to operate.
President Karzai stressed that the government of Afghanistan was strongly bound by the human rights standards and has always instructed security agencies to uphold and respect the human rights of its citizens.
