President Karzai Chairs Corp. Commanders Meeting

Kabul (BNA) Afghanistan Air Force and its current situation was a main subject of discussion at a meeting chaired by President Hamid Karzai yesterday in the presidential palace, where army generals and senior air force officials were present. 
The meeting, attended by the second vice-president and army chief of staff follows a series of earlier meetings on the relevant issues and which heard briefings by General Wahab Wardak, Afghanistan air force commander and other relevant officials on the force current state of affairs and its needs.
Commander Wahab further detailed the needs of a true air force to transport, air support and reconnaissance aircraft and urged that for Afghanistan air force to be fully operations, it requires stronger defense system that includes well-equipped radar, fighter jets, bombers and other air defense facilities, in provision of which no real steps has yet been taken by NATO. 
After a thorough discussion, the meeting decided that the government has to take urgent action in responding to the needs and requirements of the air force which have not been met by NATO. 
Elsewhere in discussion on the issue of balanced ethnic participation in the army, the generals strongly noted that any such participation and recruitment has to be fully based on merits and competence.  
The new army promotion system was also discussed in the meeting and was agreed that the army chief of staff works out a detailed plan for presentation to the next meeting.
