President Ghani Meets New UN Special Envoy To Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met Tadamichi Yamamoto, the newly appointed UN envoy to Afghanistan here the other day, a presidential statement said.
At the outset, UN envoy briefed the president on UNAMA’s working period extension in 1395 H.S which was recently approved by the UN Security Council, renewing UN pledge to continue supporting Afghanistan, the peace process and the fight against corruption.
Thanking the UN supports to Afghanistan in different spheres, the president said that int’l community’s supports to Afghanistan would be effective with government’s new positive changes in implementation of such aids.
The president asked UN special envoy to continue cooperation with Afghanistan electoral systems, adding that the government would send an official letter regarding UNAMA’s technical supports to UN agency.
Following, Yamamoto said that considering the current political, social and economic situation of Afghanistan, the UN and other international donor countries would spare no effort to help the development process.
Tadamichi Yamamoto is currently the deputy to UN special envoy to Afghanistan and would officially take the position of the UN envoy to Afghanistan in the coming three months.
