Biden Announces Israel’s Ceasefire Proposal, Welcomed by UN and Hamas

KABUL(BNA): Following U.S. President Joe Biden’s announcement of a ceasefire proposal from Israel, UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the move, and Hamas expressed a positive outlook. This marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict.

On his X page, Biden stated that Israel’s new ceasefire proposal, sent to Hamas through Qatar, includes three stages. The first stage involves a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from densely populated Gaza areas, the release of some prisoners, the return of captives’ bodies, the return of Palestinian refugees to Gaza, and increased humanitarian aid.

In addition, the second stage calls for a permanent end to hostilities, negotiations for the release of remaining prisoners, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Furthermore, the third stage focuses on major reconstruction of Gaza and the return of captives’ bodies to their families.

Guterres, urging a swift response, emphasized the need for all parties to seize this opportunity for a ceasefire and lasting peace.

Hamas viewed Biden’s proposal positively, emphasizing its readiness to engage with any plan based on a permanent ceasefire, withdrawal of occupying forces, Gaza reconstruction, refugee return, and prisoner exchange, provided Israel adheres to it.

Amidst this backdrop, the Israeli regime, after over seven months of attacking Gaza, faces increasing crises and has achieved nothing but destruction and violations of international laws.
