Police Should Help Return Usurped Lands, Massoud

Kabul (BNA) The High Commission on Reforms and Urban Development with Special Envoy of President on Reforms and Good Governance, Ahmad Zia Massoud on the chair held meeting here the other day during which variety of issues including grabbing public lands by certain elements were discussed.
Members of the commissions besides presenting their reports on achievements in taking back the lands around Qargha Dam, renovation of Istalif Takht and acquisition of lands around Kabul Airport.
After hearing the reports, Zia Massoud asked the ministry for interior to help Kabul Municipality in retaking all the lands illegally occupied around Qargha Dam besides taking legal action against the land grabbers.
Massoud also instructed the concerned bodies to take action for cleaning the Kabul River. Zia Massoud, according to another report, attended the Conference on ‘Partnership for Public Interests’ organized by Civil Society Institute of Afghanistan, USAID and Counterpart agency here the other day.
In his address, Massoud said that the government in cooperation with people and civil society entities can take the country towards social and economic activities. 
Hailing the role of civil society in the country’s development, Massoud said that the civil society from the beginning day of new system 14 years ago had played its significant role in institutionalizing democracy, empowering women, fighting violence against women, education and social values.
No development and economic prosperity would be achieved in the absence if necessary reforms are not brought, the special envoy of president on good governance and reforms stated.
Former Bamyan governor and serving member of managing board of the Civil Society Institute of Afghanistan, Habiba Sarabi also spoke at the conference and stressed that all the citizens can boost public interests in a democratic manner.
