Kabul (BNA) Hamid Karzai, President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan presided over the meeting of National Security Council (NSC) on Sunday.
According to presidential press office to BNA, in the beginning the ministers for interior and defense briefing the meeting about the security situation in the country pointing out that the activities of the enemies have reduced considerably since holding successful presidential elections.
The minister for counter-narcotics presented the plan for elimination of poppy fields in the country and it was decided to take necessary steps in coordination with the national security forces to eradicate poppy.
During the proceeding, Amin Habibi the chairman of transition of the bases of foreign forces to Afghanistan presented his report on the performances of the commission about the transition of the military bases, saying since formation of the commission 335 bases of NATO-led ISAF troops have been handed over to Afghanistan side.
After the hearing of the reports, the NSC decided that the national army and national police to safeguard the bases and installations. Similarly the advisor on National Security asked the commission to conduct a comprehensive review about the possible utility of the bases for the development of economy and the role of private sector. At the end of the meeting, it was decided that the ministry of foreign affairs in coordination with the ministry for justice to work on the draft “Memorandum of Understanding between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and ICRC on human activities for the interest of people whose freedom has been suppressed” and present the draft for endorsement to the next meeting of NSC.
