Afghanistan Gains WRO Membership

Kabul (BNA) Afghanistan has gained membership of the world railway organization, the Ministry of Public Work said yesterday.
Minister of Public Work says efforts are being made for maintaining links with all international railways organizations so that we can extend and set up railways in Afghanistan.
BNA correspondent reported, Eng. Najibullah Ozhan, Minister of Public Work in a news conference held yesterday said, “After participation in international conferences and briefing related to strategic importance and optimistic of the country and region, Afghanistan reached to membership of international railway organizations including UIC, a huge international organization, adding Afghanistan department for railways is needed to coordinate relevant affairs in various sections particularly in technical, surveying and designing sections and absorb support and assistance of the railways organization for getting membership of such organizations.”
He said membership in the railways organization enabled Afghanistan to make efforts for development of trade according to world standards. “Currently there is only 70km railroad in Afghanistan and is determined that 5600km railways are to be constructed with close cooperation of international railways organizations and friend countries,” Minister of Public Work added.
