‘Our Water Sources Should be Managed as Natural Asset’. President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, chaired a meeting discussing water management, irrigation and general water supply, at the Charchanar Palace on Tuesday.
The meeting participants, Hashmatullah Ghafoori, deputy to the ministry of agriculture, irrigation and livestock, Eng. Hamidullah Yalani, the ministry’s water supply general director, spoke about the related issues and provided the country’ president with information the challenges facing by the water management in the country.
Speaking at the meeting taken part by F8irst Vice-President, Sarwar Danesh, Chief Executive of the national unity government and acting minister of finance, the president, after hearing their viewpoints, said more should be done in this field as what has been in this connection was not enough.
According to the president, there was a need for working on a plan to coordinate all activities to help reach tangible consequence in a short time, the statement added.
“We should have a wide perspective on water management at the national level and a basic roadmap to help clear development in the field of water management,” said the statement quoting the president.
The president said that 90 percent of the people are using water traditionally and the predicated climate change jeopardize the sector and added:
“The country’s water should be managed as natural asset.”
He went on as saying that the government should help the people take part in water management to could use effectively the water resources, in the coming years, when facing droughts.
