First Regional Conference On Women’s Rights Held

Kabul (BNA) The first regional conference on the women rights is organized by the Organization of Human Rights and Democracy of Afghanistan with the participation of representatives of women rights foundations from Central Asia, South Asia and Central Asian area and the women rights activists from Afghanistan.
The participants to this conference discussed and shared their experience with respect to common bonds, traditions in different spheres that are creating regional cooperation and emphasized on regional cooperation for reducing of problems on the course of progress of women in these countries.
The representatives of India, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh and Nepal discussed their problems about women status and the women problems in their countries and explained their social relations and they noted issues like women abductions, rapes, under-age marriages, self-immolation, social pressures and unaccepted traditions indicating these countries are suffering from similar problems.
The Afghan women activists by hearing those problems reached the conclusion that the prevailing problems in these countries are emanating from unaccepted traditions solution of which is linked with cooperation of other segments of the society and to end these require persistent struggle so that positive changes are brought about the lives of women of this region.
They said that there is also need for proper programming and devising of workable schemes by the women rights foundations and the women rights activists as foreign prescriptions are not the way to solve them.
The participants of this conference are unanimous that solution of these problems can also be facilitated through compiling of laws and regulations as promotion of human values and civic laws are also responsive to these problems.
They emphasized that the regional countries should align their laws and regulations in a way that they can preserve women rights and their rights are not sacrificed against the unnecessary wishes of other segments of the society.
The work of the conference attended by 150 representatives from different Asian countries with the financial support of Germany and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan which was started five days ago ended today by issuing of a resolution emphasizing on the regional cooperation for solving social problems of women in these countries.
