Afghanistan and Russia Discuss Trade and Regional Cooperation

KABUL (BNA): The Islamic Emirate’s Acting Foreign Minister, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, and the Russian President’s Special Envoy, Zamir Kabulov, held a meeting to talk about various issues of mutual interest.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the topics included bilateral ties, trade expansion, and Afghanistan’s role in regional and global forums.

Mr. Muttaqi thanked Russia for its support and expressed the wish to strengthen the relations between the two countries. He also mentioned Afghanistan’s willingness to facilitate the transit of Russian goods to South Asia.

Kabulov stressed the importance of regional consensus and dialogue with the Afghan government to resolve any problems.

He praised the growing collaboration of regional countries with Afghanistan and suggested the formation of new mechanisms to deal with regional challenges.

He also urged the United States to release Afghanistan’s frozen funds to help its economy. He said Russia was ready to increase trade with Afghanistan and invited Afghan businessmen to visit Russia to explore potential opportunities.
