UK Underlines Commitment to Support Afghanistan Achieve Peace

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani spoke with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday evening, a statement said yesterday.

In the telephone conversation, the British Prime Minister reaffirmed his country’s continued support for the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, particularly to the security and defense forces, the peace process and its assistance in the field of human rights and development programs.

On the other hand, President Ghani, while highlighting Braitian’s key role in the peace and stability of Afghanistan, said that the common values of the two countries will help succeed the peace process and ensuring stability in Afghanistan means peace and stability in the region and the world, the presidential palace statement added.

Meanwile a statement from the British Prime Minister office said that the leaders paid tribute to the thousands of British, Afghan and NATO forces who have served in Afghanistan over the last decade.

The Prime Minister underlined the UK’s commitment to supporting Afghanistan to achieve a stable and democratic future following the withdrawal of NATO troops. He said the UK would use the full spectrum of our diplomatic, development and defense work to achieve this, the statement added yesterday.

“He also gave President Ghani his personal support and the leaders resolved to continue to work together going forward to counter the terrorist threat in Afghanistan,” the statement said.

The Prime Minister said the UK would continue to support a negotiated political settlement as the best path to peace in Afghanistan.
