Kabul (BNA) The body of late vice President Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim was laid to rest in Deh Kepak area of Kabul amid thousands of mourners on Tuesday.
BNA correspondent reported, His coffin from the hospital of Sardar Mohammad Daud was shifted to the defense ministry and then Presidential Palace where his funeral prayer was held.
Professor Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf had led the funeral prayer which attended among others by ranking officials from Islamic countries.
“I have friendship with Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim for over the past 12 years.
He was a patriotic, peace loving and cooperated with me in all issues,” President Karzai said in his remarks after funeral prayer.
The president added, “I have lost my esteemed friend, brother and a great servant of Afghanistan, he was a great personality of this country and I express my sympathy with Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim family.” “We are leaving this world for the world hereafter, but the good one is who serves the country and leaves good name behind. And I am the witness that Marshal Fahim was for the national interests of Afghanistan,”
Karzai added in his remarks. Speaking at the funeral ceremony, Marshal Fahim’s son Aqil Fahim said, “My father was hopeful to see Islamic justice and social prosperity, peace and national understanding in the country.”
He also said, “My father Marshal Fahim believed that fair and transparent elections is the only way to get the country out of instability and I am calling upon all the government officials, Mujahideen and the people of the country to spare no efforts in achieving the goal.”
Aqil Fahim also thanked the president and the government commission for arranging funeral ceremony and all those attended the funeral ceremony.
