National, International Support Existed for Afghan Army: President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) Chairing a meeting of the Ministry of Defense leadership, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said on Thursday that the capacities of Afghan National Army (ANA) drastically developed during the past five years, a statement from the presidential press office said yesterday.
Acting Defense Minister Asadullah Khalid, praised the attention and trust of the president in the army, adding their attention could play key role in the capacity-building and owning responsibility of the armed forces.
Minister Khalid said the president’s defense perspective was a strategic guideline for the army and would remain so. “In light of the president vision, the army achieved its goals and had gains.”
The president expressed his trust and confidence in leadership of the Defense Ministry, army officers and personnel and said: “Each one of you will have my support and the backing of the people of Afghanistan and the international community.”
“My dream from the past has been that Afghanistan have a strong and effective army which possess a legal authority of the use of force and fortunately today this dream became true,” he said.
The president facilitated ANA officers’ promotions which had been approved and said these promotions were supposed to be conferred on officers on the last Independence Day, but the ceremony did not happen due to engagement of the officers in operations.
President Ghani said a country’s leadership could take major decisions when its leaders fully trusted the abilities and strength of their security forces.
