CE Congratulates Inauguration of Salma Dam

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has congratulated inauguration of Salma dam to the people of Afghanistan and praised the friendly country India for paving the way for opening the dam.
In his message, the country’s chief executive regarded the opening day of the dam as taking another positive and effective step towards prosperity and development in Afghanistan.
“I am congratulating opening the dam to Afghan nation and the people of the friendly country, India. Construction work on the dam was started decades ago by Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan and it was opened today.
It is an unprecedented step towards expansion and development of Afghanistan and a good symbol of Afghanistan and India’s friendship. Afghanistan and India have historical relations standing on friendship, goodwill and cooperation bases.
India has always provided assistance and cooperation to Afghanistan in development affairs, which are praised by Afghans. Any country which wants to have friendly relations with Afghanistan should see the Afghan – Indian friendship.
Afghans know those cooperating Afghanistan and will never forget those who want to impose war on them and destroy the country.
Opening Salma dam has shown that the national unity government has paid its much attention to economic development.
Despite security challenges, the national unity government is trying to root out poverty and unemployment in the country by providing economic opportunities and launching big infrastructural projects.
The Afghanistan – India friendship dam, which is one the most significant infrastructures of Afghanistan, is located in Herat’s Chesht-e-Sharif district. Construction of the dam has shown that the water of Afghanistan is under control of national unity government and has the right to make use of it. The dam with its 20 km length and 7 km width has the capacity of storing 620 million cu.m, generating 42 MW electricity and irrigating nearly 80,000 hectare agricultural lands,” the message said.
