President Ghani Reviews Afghanistan’s Roads Condition

Kabul (BNA) In a meeting presided over by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and attended by officials from the Ministry of Public Works and its experts, the conditions of roads, highways, their designs and maintenance were reviewed.
According to presidential press office to BNA, during the meeting which held in Arg the other day, it was confirmed that problems exist in constructing the roads, their designs and their maintenance in Afghanistan.
It was also decided in the meeting to thoroughly inspect and identify the problems of the roads in the country and take necessary steps for their removal and managing road projects. The meeting besides stressing for creation of manpower also decided to categorize the road construction companies based on their experiences. In the meeting, the participants emphasized for bolstering local construction products and also decided that from now on the president ought to preside over the meetings on national infrastructure projects.
The president, according to another report in meeting with the experts from ministries of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock and Rural Rehabilitation & Urban Development at the Presidential Palace yesterday exchanged views on agricultural problems and said that overcoming wheat shortage would help solve further economic problems in the country. He also noted that so far there is no policy to develop agriculture and produce wheat to help the country achieve self-sufficiency in this field. It is vital to have a policy to develop wheat cultivation with the objective to achieve self-sufficiency in this regard, the president noted, instructing the experts to device a comprehensive policy within two weeks to be implemented in coming spring with the objective to earn self-reliance in wheat product.
