Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, who recently arrived in Kabul for signing a counter-terrorism Memorandum of Cooperation (MoU), thanked him for his country’s cooperation in various fields, particularly its efforts for peace in Afghanistan, a statement from the Presidential Palace said Saturday.
The country’s president also thanked Chinese foreign minister, for signing the MoU on fighting terrors and asked for his country’s cooperation in strengthening the regional peace consensus, said the statement.
“China is one of Afghanistan’s good neighbors and important regional partner, which, including peace, it has coordination with the US and Indian for peace in Afghanistan,” said the president as quoted by the statement.
Meanwhile Chinese foreign minister said his country was committed to cooperate with Afghanistan on peace, fighting terrorism, rebuilding infrastructures, trade and development of Afghanistan, the statement quoted.
He said his country would support an intra-Afghan peace dialogue which would be led and owned by the Afghans.
The foreign minister also said that China will ask Pakistan to use its influence on the Taliban, to join peace process and end the long war in Afghanistan.
President Ghani also noted that Afghanistan was seeking all-out cooperation from China in peace agreement, as a lasting peace and stability would pave the way for Chinese development projects implemented in the country.
The country’s president also separately met with Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Quraishi, at the Gul Khana Palace, where both sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in war on terror.
The two sides also spoke about the ways of how to implement the counterterrorism efforts MoU, which was signed in a trilateral meeting of Afghanistan, Pakistan and China’s foreign ministers.
Pakistan’s foreign minister spoke about the trust building between the two countries and said a stable Afghanistan was in the interest of his country, the statement said.
