Afghan-Turkmen-Tajik Railway Project To Be Inaugurated Soon

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai at a meeting with Rashid Meredov, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, discussed the commencement of railway project expected to be kicked off soon, the presidential palace said.
According to statement from the presidential office, the meeting was held in the presidential palace, where Turkmenistan’s foreign minister conveyed good wishes of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammodov to president Karzai.
He also submitted an invitation letter of Turkmenistan president to Hamid Karzai to participate in augural ceremony of the rail-road project which connects Afghanistan Turkmenistan and Tajikistan which be held very soon.
Accepting the invitation, president Karzai called the railway project not only good for welfare of the three countries but also in the best interest of the region.  The president thanked Turkmenistan for its assistance and cooperation in the last ten years.  The two sides also discussed the TAPI gas pipeline and other projects in the region.
It should be noted that an Understating Memorandum on constructing a rail road which connects Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan was signed in Eshqabad one day before of Nawrooz by the Presidents of the three countries.
The railway will start from Atamurad a region in Turkmenistan and will extend to Aqina and Andkhou of Afghanistan and connects Kunduz province via Sherkhan port to Tajikistan.
