Emergency Meeting Discusses Nangarhar Security Situation

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani chaired an emergency video conference meeting on the deteriorating security situation in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday.
Nangarhar governor Hayatullah Hayat, police chief and National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief shared their security reports about the province with the President during the video conference meeting. Nangarhar officials told the President that Daesh had been defeated in Nangarhar and the group was now looking for soft targets in Jalalabad city. They also unveiled a plan to spoil enemy’s attacks and improve security in the province. After listening to Nangarhar officials, President Ghani expressed his condolences to the families of a tribal elder show was liked along with four others in a suicide attack on Monday. The President said the Afghan forces would work together for improving security in Nangarhar. Chief of Army Staff Gen. Mohammad Sharif Yaftali provided information about creation of an Afghan local army force and their deployment in Nangarhar province to the meeting. President Ghani directed NDS officials to take comprehensive security measures for protection of civil departments in Nangarhar. The meeting at the end decided to develop short, mid and long-term plans for improving security in Nangarhar.
