Paktia Elders Discus Problems With President Karzai

Kabul (BNA) A number of southern Paktia province elders including religious scholars discussed their problems in a meeting with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai on Tuesday, the presidential press office said BNA, issues including healthcare, education, power-supply and road building projects had been discussed by the elders with the president at the presidential palace.
Local elder, Mawlavi Khalilullah Firuzi and Senator Baz Mohammad Zurmati representing others spoke at the meeting and presented their provincial issues with the president of the country.
Water dams and power plants reconstruction, promoting the province status from first to second grade, provincial hospital development and building of Gurdiz-Zarmat ring-road had been among the issues asked by the elders to be addressed by the government.
Pointing to the accomplishments, particularly in the area of strengthening national partnership between different tribes of the country, Baz Mohammad emphasized that the next leader of the country should have traits to strengthen national unity and partnership in the country.
After hearing the problems of the elders, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan vowed to discuss the issue with the next cabinet members meeting and required measures would be adopted in this field.
The president of the country meanwhile asked the elders to hasten the entire Paktia people including men and women to take part in the April 5 elections and vote for their favorite candidates, as he said participation in the national and democratic process would further empower Afghanistan.
