CE Seeks Afghanistan SCO’s Permanent Membership

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah who is representing Afghanistan at Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at 14th prime ministers’ meeting of the member states in Zhangzhou city the capital of Henan province of China has called for membership to the organization, BNA reported.
In his speech at the conference yesterday, the chief executive noted that the international community has been facing challenges and the world is going towards polarization.
In this critical state, the role of regional organization such as SCO becomes importance.
Afghanistan believes that joint cooperation and coordination among the member states could take the region towards development and prosperity, the chief executive said.
Recalling the recently held the 5th Heart Asia conference in Islamabad, the chief executive added that the conference was important step towards regional cooperation for stabilizing peace and security in Afghanistan.
It is the time to act upon our words and promises and take steps towards strengthening peace, stability and economic development in this part of the world, the chief executive added.
Describing Afghanistan’s geographical location as very important, the chief executive said that Afghanistan wants to promote from observe as permanent member to SCO.
The chief executive also thanked the countries supported Afghanistan demand for membership.
In his address, the chief executive also called upon SCO-member states to facilitate establishing joint bank of the organization to help Afghanistan in the fields of infrastructure and bridge the region to trade and economic activities.
Dr. Abdullah also repeated Afghanistan’s commitment in fighting terrorism, extremism and separatism and also sought the support of SCO in this regard.
The chief executive, according to another report, at the sideline of the conference met the Indian state minister on foreign affairs Ouija Kumar Singh and exchanged views on matters relating mutual interests including bilateral relations between the two countries.
