“Violence Against Women, Oppressing Them Is Against Islam: “President Karzai

Kabul (BNA)  Members of Afghanistan Nationwide Ulema Council in their meeting with president Karzai discussed women rights in the light of Islamic values and called any, violence and cruelty against them an anti-Islamic act. 
While chairman of the Ulema council Qayamuddin Kashaf presidential advisor Prof. Nematullah Shahrani and attorney general Mohammad Ishaq Aleko were present, the council declaration was read out by Mawlawi Mohammad Yousuf Waizi. 
In the declaration it is said that based on religious guidance, women have the highest human position and there is no difference between the men and women before God. 
Islam compared to any other religion respect the rights of women and condemns any cruelty and oppression against the women.  It asks the judiciary organs to strongly react against those who violate women rights and those who assault women and punish them. 
Addressing the Ulema president Karzai said that cruelty against the women is enmity with Islam and it is our religious and human mission to stand against cruelty towards the women and respect their rights. 
He asked the Ulema that in order to prevent violence against women they would launch massive publicity in the mosques and Takias in the light of Islam religion values. 
Shankai Zaheen Karokhail deputy at the House of People expressed pleasure over the stance of the Ulema council of Afghanistan in relations to the cruelties against women and said that she will share women problems with them. 
She asked the Ulema council to take into account the views of their women folk as well as their proposals and passes their decisions based on the problems that the women experience in the society. 
Mawlawi Qayamudden assured that in the struggle for prevention of violence against women the council will share its views so to achieve their religious mission. 
He asked the president of the country to instruct the Hajj and Endowment Ministry to facilitate publicity through the mosques Imams in this respect.
