MoRR and UNHCR Collaborate on Joint Database to Improve IDP and Refugee Management


KABUL(BNA): The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, under the leadership of the Deputy Minister, recently held a joint meeting with Officials from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

In the meeting, UNHCR officials including Subair Mohammad Ibrahim Deputy of Operations, Valerie Sobo Duva Deputy of Legal Affairs, Jilwas Nkalamoso Emergency Advisor, Celine Schmidt (Senior Advisor for Agreements), and Christoph Portman Senior Policy Advisor, discussed the coordination of internally displaced persons (IDPs) data and outlined the activities for the current year.

Mawlawi Abdulrahman Rashid, the Deputy Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, praised UNHCR’s efforts and pledged continued cooperation. He emphasized that addressing refugee issues is a shared priority for both the ministry and UNHCR, underscoring the need for joint efforts and mutual collaboration.

Meanwhile, UNHCR officials highlighted the importance of harmonizing IDP statistics, stressing the need to establish a joint database among the ministry, UNHCR, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to enhance and expedite issue resolution.
