President Karzai Hopes Holding Fair, Transparent Elections

Kabul (BNA) President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai met with all 11 presidential candidates and their vice-presidents at the Presidential Palace, the presidential press office said yesterday. The meeting was also attended by chairmen of the independent election commission and election complaints commission, its members and head of the secretariat of the two commissions, ministers of defense and interior affairs, chairman of national security department and national security advisor.
At the meeting President Karzai emphasized on transparent election in the country. Welcoming the participants of the meeting President Karzai said that holding of transparent election will be an honor for the country, adding that it will be my best day when the presidential election is held in good manner and the affairs of the country is successfully transferred to the new president of the country.
The 11 presidential candidates expressed their viewpoints and their concerns and emphasized on holding of transparent election and government’s impartiality in the process.
They also reiterated on preservation of the achievements of the past 10 years and it’s further strengthening and stressed on the need for preserving national unity in the country, adding that the campaign of the candidates should be achieved with good morality.
The chairmen of the election and election complaint commissions also spoke at the meeting assuring the president and the candidates that they will strive for transparent election with the required impartiality.
At the end of this meeting, President Karzai said that the government will strive with all its possibilities that the election is held with impartiality and in transparent manner.
He urged the presidential candidates to express their joint approach for ensuring of impartial and successful election in 1393 and measures for preventing government interventions through the election commission and to the presidential office.
Touching on the importance of security in the election process, President Karzai noted that in his meeting today with the defense and interior ministers he was assured by them that the Afghan security forces can ensure the security of the election process.
President Karzai added that the Afghan security forces are fully prepared for ensuring the security of the upcoming April 5th presidential elections.
