Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah participated yesterday in opening ceremony of a program launched and funded by USAID in which 135 million books are to be printed and distributed for grades 1-12 across the country.
In the ceremony held at US embassy to Kabul, the embassy Special Chargé d’Affaires Ambassador Hugo Llorens by praising chief executive for participation in the ceremony said the US and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) would stand beside the people and government of Afghanistan and by launching the program in cooperation with ministries of education and finance and by printing and distribution of school textbooks for students and instruction book for teachers want to participate in development and strengthening of Afghanistan education.
Afterwards, chief executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in his speech praised the US for its active role in providing assistance to Afghanistan education in particular printing and distribution of 135 million books for grades 1 – 12.
The country’s chief executive stressed that book was the most significant need of education and was happy that school students would have access to standard curriculum in near future, while teachers would have access to standard instruction books.
In consideration to increasing achievements of the government and people of Afghanistan in education and higher education sectors, chief executive stressed on development and strengthening of education in the country and called current war in the country as war against brightness.
It is worth mentioning that the project is a (USAID)-funded program for the Afghan Ministry of Education (MoE). The agency will provide $75 million to the MoE to print and distribute 135 million approved textbooks and teachers’ guides for grades 1-12 to all public schools in Afghanistan.
According to another report, chief executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in a statement condemned terrorist attack on Shamshad Television in Kabul and considered the attack as targeting freedom of speech, democracy and achievements of press and media in Afghanistan.
The statement said that targeting media and journalists was against all combat laws, international and human values and coward terrorists would be questioned for perpetrating such acts against media.
