President Ghani Stresses Women’s Key Role in Peace Process

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani addressing a gathering on “Women’s national consensus for peace” at Amani High School here on Wednesday, thanked their stance for supporting of peace and the ceasefire in the country.
According to BNA report, at the event which was also attended by the First Laday Rula Ghani, President Ghani has called for participation of all people, including women in the peace process and reiterated his readiness for talks with the Taliban everywhere. The President praised women’s consensus on peace and their support for the ceasefire and urged an active role for women in the country’s affairs including the peace process. The President said: “Peace is a national process; its parameters could not be identified without the consensus of women and different other segments of the society.” “I will strive for peace even if it costs me my head. We want durable peace in which women are active participants and peace that ensures clear definition of our religious and constitutional laws. Our target is the establishment of peace which could end the 40 years of inherited conflicts,” he said. The President said the contemporary discussion was not between the government and the Taliban, but between the nation and the Taliban. He termed Ghazni as the capital of Islamic Ummah and added attack on Ghazni was attack on Islamic values and attacks on public property and cultural sites were a crime. The women also passed a resolution, supporting the Fetwa of local and international Ulema regarding peace in Afghanistan. In their resolution, the women praised security forces and the government for their efforts to achieve peace and condemned Taliban’s continued attacks which resulted in the killing of innocent people.
