CMs’ Subcommittee On Refugees Holds Meeting

Kabul (BNA) Chaired by Chief Executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the Council of Ministers (CMS) subcommittee on refugees held session, his office said in a statement the other day. In the meeting, urgent humanitarian assistances, addressing residence problems of the returnees, the proposal on standardizing of returnees and displaced people townships and some other related issues has been discussed, the statement further said.
At the outset, the minister of refugees and returnees briefed the participants about refugees’ situation, adding daily, about 5,000 Afghan immigrants are returning home, a number of whom have legal document and some others don’t, the statement added.
Those who have document will be financially assisted by the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR) and those who don’t will be assisted less amount of money by the international agency on refugees which is not sufficient, Balkhi added, the statement continued.
Likewise, he spoke about Internal Displaced People (IDPs), adding most of them are from Helmand, Baghlan, Kunduz and Sar-e-Pul provinces whom are not satisfactorily assisted by international organizations and the related domestic offices, the statement went on to say.
Then, Minister Balkhi presented the session the letter of Hesarak district of Nangarhar province people residing in Pakistan, adding there are 2,000 families living in Pakistan and they ask the government to specify their residence areas in Afghanistan. Afterwards, CE Abdullah instructed the ministry of refugees and returnees to contact with those families, and ask if they are interested, lands will be distributed to them in Kot or Qasim Abad areas.
At the end, CE Abdullah tasked the ministry of refugees to weekly report on its work improvement on refugees to the CMs secretariat, as well as instructed the ministry of finance to financially cooperate with refugees programs.
