President Ghani and Emir of Qatar Speak by Phone

Kabul (BNA) President Ashraf Ghani in a phone conversation with Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar this discussed Afghan peace process and efforts to expand bilateral relations in trade and economic areas yesterday.

Presidential palace by releasing a statement reported BNA, the two leaders stressed that MoU on formation of Afghanistan-Qatar joint committee should be drafted in the view of their discussion during President Ghani’s official visit to Qatar as an effort to further strengthen mutual economic and trade ties between the two countries.

President Ghani while expressing his concerns over spiral of violence by the Taliban said, unlike our expectations that violence would be significantly reduced, it has increased substantially. The president said Afghan government seeks the cooperation of Qatar that is currently hosting the negotiations between the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban, the statement added.

The Emir of Qatar condemned the terrorist attacks in Kabul, Helmand and other Afghan cities including the one on Kabul University said, he understands what the people and government of Afghanistan are feeling and that they spare no efforts to cooperate, the statement further added.

The two leaders agreed to continue such conversations in the future, the statement concluded.
