Elections Commission Share Problems With President Karzai

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai met head and members of the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) and the Election Complaints Commission (ECC) and discussed their readiness for upcoming election, technical, logistical and security problems facing both the commissions.
At the meeting held at the presidential palace, President Karzai stressed that the upcoming election is vital and has its importance, therefore the election not only lays a concrete foundation for democracy but also strengthens it at the same time it has its role in ensuring stability and security in the country.
He added that the government cooperates with you and it is our duty to support you towards successful holding of elections.
He urged the participants to perform their duties honestly in holding free and fair elections.
Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Nuristani head of the Independent Election Commission explained necessary preparations adapted by the commission for holding the upcoming elections added that we have adapted all necessary technical preparedness for the future elections.
Dr. Nuristani assured the president that they will exert all efforts for holding an election to acceptable for the people of Afghanistan.
He added that the complaints about the number of centers and the shortage of voting cards will be addressed and the commission will activate mobile teams and the team will register the names and distribute cards to the eligible people.
He also recalled transport and security problems and sought the president’s attention towards solution of these problems.
He considered insecurity an issue of concern of the commission and stressed that we hoped that this will be resolved with the cooperation of the security organs.
He noted that the security organs have assured them that they will exert all possible efforts for ensuring the security of the voting centers facing security threats.
Abdul Sattar Saadat head of the Election Complaint Commission apprised the president over progress in the activities of the commission adding that we are committed to accomplish our tasks per the law and now the commission is working on the documents and the complaint referred to this commission.
He noted that all the commission’s session for addressing the complaints of the candidate are held openly in presence of the media.
He however sought cooperation of the government in order to further accelerate the activities of the commission and resolving budgetary and security problems of this commission’s central and provincial centers.
The meeting decided that a meeting is organized today with the participation of ministers of interior, finance, directorate of national security, head of the independent commission of administrative reforms and heads of the independent election commission and the election complaint commission to discuss security and budgetary issues of the commissions.
