Obama Praises NUG for Anti-Corruption Efforts

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani spoke with Barack Obama, President of the United States via video teleconference the other day and discussed security, economy and strengthening of bilateral relations, the President Press Office said in a statement.
President Ghani thanked the US for its support to the defense and security forces of Afghanistan. The two leaders stressed on seeking ways to garner further support for the Afghan forces, the statement further said. President Obama praised recent progress in the Afghan-led peace talks and reiterated his government’s support for the process, the statement added. President Obama also praised the National Unity Government for its anti-corruption efforts, particularly in the procurement process and reviving the economy; he further commended President Ghani on his role in expanding economic and security cooperation at the regional level. President Ghani said that Afghanistan is committed to effective utilization of international assistance to the country. The President talked about reforms in the banking system, procurement and recruitment processes and said that these measures will increase revenue and strengthen the rule of law.
As well as, Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah during video conference expressed gratitude to President Obama over placing Afghanistan on his working agenda, saying the US support to Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) is significant in the war on terror and stabilizing security in the country. Chief Executive also stressed that the government of national unity would spare no efforts in checking corruption, improving economic and security situation in Afghanistan. The video conference was attended by Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance, Acting Minister of National Defense, and the Director and Deputy Director of the Office of Administrative Affairs on the side of Afghanistan. Security Council Advisor, President Obama’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, the US Ambassador in Afghanistan and Commander of Resolute Support Mission had attended the video teleconference from the American side.
