WB Called Sanctions Reduction Against Russia

KABUL (BNA) The World Bank and a number of other Western organizations have called for the reduction of sanctions against Russia in a statement.

According to Sputnik, the heads of the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Monetary Fund, the World Food Program (WFP), and the World Trade Organization announced in a joint statement on Friday, July 15 said that Western sanctions should be reduced against Russia to solve the food crisis.

“The COVID-19 pandemic, the disruption of international supply chains, and the fallout from the conflict over Ukraine have severely disrupted the interconnected markets for food, fuel, and fertilizer.”

According to the UN World Food Program, by June 2022, the number of people suffering from severe food insecurity, whose access to food is limited in the short term to a real threat to life, has increased to 345 million in 82 countries.

The world is moving away from the goal of ending hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition by 2030.

Politicians have proposed one of the measures that can help to solve the existing problems, to remove the restrictions imposed on Moscow by Western countries.

Experts say the crisis of 2008 taught the world that the imposition of global trade restrictions directly contributes to the increase in food prices. Removing export restrictions and introducing more flexible inspection and licensing processes will help reduce supply disruptions and lower prices.

In addition to removing trade restrictions, they suggest immediate support for vulnerable populations, increased food production, and investment in climate-resilient agriculture as necessary measures.

on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a televised speech, announced the beginning of a special military operation to defend the Donbas republics, which had been officially recognized earlier that week.

Since then, Western countries have increased the pressure of sanctions on Russia, sanctioning a number of Russian banks, blacklisting a number of senior Russian officials, and freezing their assets abroad.

Moscow has clearly stated that it has no occupation plans and the purpose of this operation is to protect the civilians of Donbas from genocide and demilitarization and de-Nazification in Ukraine.
