Japan To Fund $43 Million For Extension, Equipment Of KIA

Kabul (BNA) An agreement costing $ 43 million was signed yesterday between Minister of Foreign Affairs Zarar Ahmad Usmani and Japan ambassador to Kabul for extension and reconstruction of Kabul International Airport (KIA).
Interior Ministry press office stated BNA, before signing the agreement, Minister of Foreign Affairs Zarar Ahmad Usmani said, “Japan will spent $ 43 million in various sections as renovation of terminal, selling some equipment as x-ray machines for security checking gates and shuttle buses.”
“Japan has assisted $ 5 billion in various sections to Afghanistan so far and is the second donor to Afghanistan, saying only $ 100 million has been spent by Japan for reconstruction of KIA,” Usmani said.
According to Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Tokyo conference, Japan ambassador to Kabul had pledged that Japan would assist $ 9 billion to Afghanistan until 2017.
Afterwards, Japan ambassador to Kabul said, “Kabul International Airport is a gate connecting Afghanistan with the World and our assistance is a sign of friendship between people of Japan and Afghanistan.”
Japan assistance to KIA would be for construction of the terminal’s second floor to be used for returning of passengers, extension of the airport and machines controlling passengers, he said.
