Commission Reviews Airports’ Responsibilities Handover To ANSF

Kabul (BNA) The commission which was tasked by the cabinet of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to transfer the responsibilities of Afghanistan’s international airports from the Foreign Forces to the Afghan national security forces (ANSF) held session with Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on the chair with participation of officials from the Ministries of National Defense, Interior, Economy, Finance, Agriculture and Irrigation, Urban Development, Transport, presidential advisor Dawood Sultanzoi and the head of the independent department of the civil aviation here yesterday, Chief Executive’s press office said in a statement. Pointing on transferring the International airports’ responsibility to the country’s security forces and calling it an excellent measure, the presidential advisor, Dawood Sultanzoi said that nearly 11 millions of dollars have been invested in these airports and based on the commitments of the GoIRA with international community; the airports’ facilities should be changed to economic zones. “If the government implements its activity based on the plans already drafted, the country’s international airports would bring 57 million of dollar as revenue and would also create over 500.000 jobs for the citizens”, Sultanzoi was quoted in the statement. In the meeting it was also stated the foreign forces are keen to submit the responsibilities of the airports to the national security forces, but the exact date of submission is not fixed yet, and the government was urged to specify the date. After hearing the commission members’ reports, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah instructed the commission to hold session before the meeting of the high council of economy and after overall evaluation, the issue should be presented to the cabinet of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Chief Executive was quoted in the statement.
